Dorothy Bordass (1905 – 1992)
Dorothy Bordass was born in London. During the 1920s she studied at the Académe Julian in Paris under R T Mumford and at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art under Ian McNab. Bordass painted in St Ives during the later 1950s/early 1960s and took part in many group shows, including the Mercury Gallery and the important Metavisual Tachiste Abstract show at The Redfern Gallery in 1957. Solo shows were held at the New Vision Centre Gallery, Woodstock Gallery and elsewhere, both in the provinces and overseas.
Bordass was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Painters in 1978. The South London Art Gallery and other British and Commonwealth galleries hold her work.
